Wayne McCray, CFA
Welcomes you to the
Lafayette County Property Appraiser office
As Lafayette County Property Appraiser, my primary responsibility is to insure fair and impartial appraisals for all the property owners of Lafayette County. Our mission is to perform this task efficiently, accurately and with exceptional
service. In order to assure equity in our appraisals, our system and methods are based on nationally accepted appraisal practices. Florida Statutes also govern
our methods and practices, with the Florida Department of Revenue Property Tax Administration having oversight and
audits of our appraisals and operations.
The Property Appraiser does not determine the amount of your taxes. The various taxing authorities set the annual tax rate to meet their budget. Lafayette County Taxing Authorities include the County Commissioners,
School Board, Water Management District, and the City
Council (if property is inside City Limits). Once the tax rate is set it is applied to your property value which then produces
tax amount.
Other responsibilities of the Property Appraiser include the
administration of the many property tax exemptions, keeping ownership records current, and maintaining aerial
photographs including computerized mapping of the county.
I trust this website will be of benefit to you and hope you will contact me if you have any questions.
